The Montblanc Meisterstück 146, one of the most famous fountain pens

The Montblanc Meisterstück 146 and it’s bigger brother the 149 have become classics in the meantime. Although the Meisterstück 146 and 149 aren’t as old as the Paker Duofold from 1921, they do have a old look and feel. Many people see the classic Montblanc when they think about an old fountain pen. The 146 and 149 are designed after the second worldwar and are actually not really that old yet. Montblanc has become a company that offers a lot of luxury products, including watches, leather good and perfumes. But they still make some very good fountain pens. Originally the Meisterstück 146 and 149 were made just in black with golden accents. Nowadays Montblanc has a lot of different fountain pens on the market. There is a big variety in colours and materials. Montblanc is loved by collectors for their special limited editions, where they produce unique fountain pens. Most of the time these special editions take a good turn, like te special Writers Edition for example, where some fountain pens have a great rise in value because they are gorgeous and unique. But needless to say there are also some fountain pens that didn’t turn out that great and they are not containing their value.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”1311″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

How does a Montblanc 146 or 149 write?

The MontBlanc Meisterstück 146 and 149 write excellent. If you take a lot of notes the Montblanc’s are more than fine. The fountain pens are well in hand and the thread doesn’t pose any problems as well. With the cap at the back the Meisterstück 146 is great to write with, but also without the cap the 146 has a good balance. The Meisterstück 149 iconic, but a bit on the wide side to write with. I personally recommend the 149 for people with large hands.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Montblanc Meisterstück nibs

Montblanc Meisterstück 146 black nibThe nibs of the Montblanc’s are for sale in many sizes and shapes. Watch out with the nibs of the Montblanc, some finer nibs write quite wide. If you normally buy a Medium nib it would probably be better to order a Fine nib. Most nibs are strong and made for daily work. For calligraphy you need special nibs that are more flexible.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The filling system of the montblanc Meisterstück 146 and 149

The Montblanc Meisterstück 146 and 149 normally work with a built-in filling system that works perfectly. Sometimes my 146 does leak some ink in the cap so watch out for that. The clip is perfect, but I only carry it around in a pen cover because it can leak a bit sometimes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Albert is a Dutch collector of fountain pens, and everything to do with them. He is a real "penthousiast". Next to that he lives with his family in the Netherlands in a quiet part of Noord-Brabant. He spends his spare time writing for this blog (not with a fountain pen unfortunately) and reading books.
